Embarking on a coaching journey in ringette requires understanding the certification pathways that ensure coaches are well-prepared to mentor athletes effectively. Ringette Canada, in collaboration with provincial organizations like Ringette Alberta, offers structured programs to equip coaches with the necessary skills and knowledge.

National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) Overview

The NCCP serves as the cornerstone for coaching education in Canada, providing standardized training across various sports, including ringette. The program emphasizes not only technical proficiency but also leadership and ethical coaching practices. Ringette Canada's NCCP workshops are tailored to different coaching contexts:

  • Community Sport – Initiation: Designed for first-time and recreational-level coaches, this 10-hour workshop combines classroom and on-ice sessions. Participants learn to create fun, safe environments while gaining a foundational understanding of ringette.

  • Competition – Introduction: Aimed at coaches of U12 teams and higher, this workshop delves into planning and executing effective practices. Coaches are introduced to technical and tactical elements relevant to ringette, emphasizing season-long development aligned with Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) principles.

  • Competition – Development: This advanced training prepares coaches for highly competitive teams, from Canada Games to national levels. Over 27 hours, coaches explore program planning beyond a single season, skill breakdowns, tactical analysis, and the intricacies of high-performance ringette programs.
